Now that’s more like it! We went 10-4 this week, good for a 71% win rate. Our dogs finally came home, going 5-2, and our favorites kept pace, also going 5-2. In the process, we generated our biggest P&L week of the season (+$639). Despite the hard data saying it was time to back away, we had the courage to lean in. I like dogs so much I might buy one after that haul. One of those expensive designer mutts, too.
After the most successful week of our season, it would seem that we should increase our sample size and aggressively deploy capital while the model is “quote-unquote” hot. I am going to caution against that approach as a responsible steward of your, and more importantly, my, capital.
In the hedge fund world, Stanley Druckenmiller is an idol to many. One thing I’ve always admired about him is his introspective nature. Knowing yourself first, before trying to understand the many complicated market forces and cross-currents that move asset prices. One is easy to access, the other potentially very difficult (or expensive). With Druckenmiller as our guide, I am going to pull us back.
This is a part-human operation, after all. I continue to have questions about the Penguins, Panthers and the Kraken—three teams the model has identified as backable—so we are going to avoid most of their games. I also want to carefully steer clear of heavy favorites and sharpen our pencils on the lines we require to get involved. We are going to make sure the risk-reward skews in our favor every time we are putting money on the line.
Ok, deep-dive time:
The Minnesota Wild may have raised eyebrows with the Boldy deal, but we like him and we like this team right now. With the top line flying high, the PK improving, and a top-10 road winning percentage, we are happy to back them in what projects to be three consecutive road-dog set-ups this week.
